How Low Refrigerant Impacts Air Conditioning Repair

Refrigerant sits at the core of your air conditioning system. Without it, air conditioning simply wouldn’t exist. Your unit passes the refrigerant through a series of valves and coils, which first revert it to a liquid state (creating hot air which is vented outside) then allow it to evaporate back into a gas (pulling heat out of the air and then allowing the cooled air to be blow into our house with a fan). Refrigerant types vary widely from model to model, and refrigerant levels need to be at a set, specified amount in order to function as it should. When refrigerant is lost – likely from a leak in the system somewhere – it will adversely affect the state of the air conditioner. Services that offer air conditioning repair in Jacksonville, FL can usually seal the leak and recharge the refrigerant to its prescribed level. Why is that so important? Here’s a quick breakdown of how low refrigerant impacts air conditioning repair.

In the simplest terms, the imbalance in refrigerant means that the cooling process is thrown off when the refrigerant hits the expansion coils. Instead of cooling the air like it should, it creates ice on the surface of the coils. Not only does the ice represent lost cooling potential, but it actively blocks the cooling process for the surrounding air. As a result, the air conditioner has to work a lot harder in order to do its job: increasing strain on internal components and raising the risk of a breakdown accordingly. The ice itself can cause problems as well: when it melts, it can overflow the condensate pan, damaging nearby electrical components in the process.

Refrigerant is dangerous to handle without proper training, and if a leak is the cause, then simply scraping the ice off won’t solve the problem at all. If you understand how low refrigerant impacts air conditioning repair, then you know you need to contact a trained expert like the ones at J&W Heating and Air. Just had an entirely new, full HVAC install done at our old house in Riverside, which was a fairly big job. Brian and... Will did the installation, and were awesome. There was going to be issues leveling the air handler in the attic, so they moved it to a new spot and hung it instead, getting new parts/changing the plan on the fly. We're much happier with this new setup and location of the air handler. I really appreciated this, their professionalism/thoroughness, and flexibility. Brian and Will worked super-hard, and double-checked everything once the job was done. Would use this company again.read more

Two installers here early this morning. Worked all day. Very professional, extremely well mannered and quick to answer... all my questions. They are Dustin and Robert. Both men went above just installing my new unit, they were personable and knowledgeable in what they were doing. I was surprised when I found out these two hadn't been working that long together. They worked extremely well together. I highly recommend this two men.read more

A snake crawled into my outdoor condenser and stopped my 16 year old Trane last week on Thursday. The power surge took... out my blower unit circuit board and the motor. I called J&W and Rob was over within two hours of my call. I was spec'd a new York 17 seer system and it was up and running on Monday. Technicians Jason and Brian arrived promptly and every facet of the installation was thorough. When completed, I would not of even known they were there except they left my garage cleaner! Thanks J&W!read more
