5 Common Air Conditioning Terms to Know Before You Shop

There is something to be said for understanding the lingo when it comes to central air conditioning systems. When you start to meet with professionals and also just do your research online, what you are going to find is that there is going to be a lot of terminologies you may not be too sure on. To fully understand everything that you are reading, you need to know the standard air conditioning terms out there.

Air Flow

One of the most common terms that you are going to hear when you start to talk about a central air conditioning system is that of the air flow. The air flow is going to be a measure of just how much air that the duct system that you have is going to be able to move.

The air flow is critical when you are talking about an HVAC Jacksonville FL because it will focus on how much cold air will circulate. For every ton of air conditioning capacity, the expectation is that the system is going to be able to move around about 400 cubic feet per minute of air. When you get to a climate that is more humid, that number is going to lower a bit.

The System Charge

You are going to hear professionals refer to the system charge all of the time when talking about a central air conditioning system. Checking the charge is simply a term that relates to checking refrigerant levels of the system. The refrigerant that is within your central air conditioning system’s unit is what is going to allow for the cold air to be created. The pressure of the refrigerant will be checked so that the pro will give you assurance the system will do what you wish.

The compressor is the part of the air conditioning system that usually sits outside. It is the noisy unit that can condense the air. It increases the temperature and pressure of the refrigerant to get it circulating throughout the home.

Just what does HVAC Jacksonville FL stand for? The term HVAC does have a full name, and it is called the heating, ventilating, and air conditioning system. Those words make up the abbreviation that we refer to all of the time as HVAC. It is a general name that is going to cover the entire space.

One of the other prevalent terms that you are going to see as you begin to shop for a central air conditioning system is that of the SEER. The SEER is a rating that is assigned to a central air conditioning system. It is a measure of the energy efficiency of the system. To come up with the SEER number, the BTU/HR of cooling the system can generate divided by how much electricity is needed to run it. The bare minimum SEER rating you will see is going to be 13. The higher you go, the better the energy efficiency of the system. The higher rated systems usually will have an increased price tag though as well.

Being an educated shopper can be difficult in a market such as that of the air conditioning space. There is so much information out there that it can be daunting, to say the least. We at J&W Heating and Air want to help you get through all of the smoke and mirrors, help see clearly so that you can make the best decision possible. Just had an entirely new, full HVAC install done at our old house in Riverside, which was a fairly big job. Brian and... Will did the installation, and were awesome. There was going to be issues leveling the air handler in the attic, so they moved it to a new spot and hung it instead, getting new parts/changing the plan on the fly. We're much happier with this new setup and location of the air handler. I really appreciated this, their professionalism/thoroughness, and flexibility. Brian and Will worked super-hard, and double-checked everything once the job was done. Would use this company again.read more

A snake crawled into my outdoor condenser and stopped my 16 year old Trane last week on Thursday. The power surge took... out my blower unit circuit board and the motor. I called J&W and Rob was over within two hours of my call. I was spec'd a new York 17 seer system and it was up and running on Monday. Technicians Jason and Brian arrived promptly and every facet of the installation was thorough. When completed, I would not of even known they were there except they left my garage cleaner! Thanks J&W!read more
