Should You Try to Repair or Replace Your Home Central Air Conditioning System?

We rely a great deal on our central air conditioning system.  This is especially the case if you are a resident of a very hot climate such as that of Jacksonville, FL.  When it is extremely hot in those July and August months, our central air conditioning system can provide the relief that we so desperately need.  What are we to do though when that system fails us?  Just like everything else, central air conditioning systems do break down over time.  It is when you reach this point that you have to decide whether or not you should repair or replace your home central air conditioning system.

So how do you go about deciding if you should repair the home central air conditioning system you currently have or try to replace it entirely?  You need to start to approach this problem by analyzing it at few different levels.  The first is to diagnose the problem out of the gate.  This is going to allow you to pinpoint what that issue is.  From here you are going to want to determine the cost of the repair and then put that up against what it would cost to replace the unit entirely.  Let’s take a closer look at the best way to approach this process and make a decision going forward.

Start By Assessing the Issue With the Central Air Conditioning Unit

You are likely going to have to call in a professional who works with home central air conditioning systems to help you diagnose the problem you have.  Just like you need a mechanic to help figure out what is wrong with a car, a professional in central air conditioning in Jacksonville, FL is going to be able to tell you exactly what is wrong with your unit.  When you are having trouble with your home central air conditioning system it could be a variety of things that is causing those issues.  It could be something as simple as replacing a filter or something much more complex and expensive.

When you are thinking about repairing a central air conditioning unit you have to think of it similar to a car.  You need to find out exactly where the issues are and how those issues compound one another.  One issue could be leading to a slew of other problems throughout the entire home central air conditioning system.  Assessing the issue out of the gate can help you to come up with a list of what needs to be repaired and what needs to happen to get the unit running again.

Determining the Cost of the Repair

Once you have done your assessment of all of the issues with your central air conditioning unit you can then go about figuring out the cost of the repair.  The cost to repair the central air conditioning unit is going to be an important figure.  This figure should include not only the components that you need to get the unit running normally again, but it should also include all of the labor costs that are going to go along with having those components replaced.  You need to factor in the cost of the initial issue assessment, the cost to take out the old components, as well as replace them with the new parts that you have purchased.  This should give you a total dollar price tag of what the repair is going to cost to get he home central air conditioning unit in your Jacksonville, FL home running normally.

Figuring If the Cost of the Repair is Less Than Replacement

So now that you have the dollar figure of what it will cost to repair your central air conditioning unit, how does that compare to the cost to replace the unit entirely?  In the vast majority of cases, what you are going to ind is that the cost to repair your central air conditioning system is going to be far less than replacing it.  Central air conditioning units are very expensive and typically just replacing a few of the parts or just one of the parts is going to get it working again in an efficient and effective manner.  Comparing these figures will help you make a decision though.
Repairing or replacing your central air conditioning system really does come down to the price point.  If you can have a professional repair your central air conditioning system in your Jacksonville, FL home for less than it could cost to replace it, go that route.  If not, a replacement may be necessary.

Just had an entirely new, full HVAC install done at our old house in Riverside, which was a fairly big job. Brian and... Will did the installation, and were awesome. There was going to be issues leveling the air handler in the attic, so they moved it to a new spot and hung it instead, getting new parts/changing the plan on the fly. We're much happier with this new setup and location of the air handler. I really appreciated this, their professionalism/thoroughness, and flexibility. Brian and Will worked super-hard, and double-checked everything once the job was done. Would use this company more

Two installers here early this morning. Worked all day. Very professional, extremely well mannered and quick to answer... all my questions. They are Dustin and Robert. Both men went above just installing my new unit, they were personable and knowledgeable in what they were doing. I was surprised when I found out these two hadn't been working that long together. They worked extremely well together. I highly recommend this two more

A snake crawled into my outdoor condenser and stopped my 16 year old Trane last week on Thursday. The power surge took... out my blower unit circuit board and the motor. I called J&W and Rob was over within two hours of my call. I was spec'd a new York 17 seer system and it was up and running on Monday. Technicians Jason and Brian arrived promptly and every facet of the installation was thorough. When completed, I would not of even known they were there except they left my garage cleaner! Thanks J&W!read more
